‘The second miracle at Cana.’
John 4:43-54
Observation and meditation on the text
Jesus said that no prophets would be welcomed in their hometown as he went to Galilee from Samaria. When Jesus went to Cana a certain royal official whose son was sick in bed in Capernaum came to Jesus to heal him. Jesus simply declared that his son was alive. Upon hearing from Jesus on his way back home he was met by his servant that his son was healed when Jesus declared that the boy should be revived. At this second miracle Jesus performed in Cana he and his whole household believed in Jesus Christ.
I hear the voice of the Lord through QT
The first miracle Jesus performed in Cana gives me a message of God that when I believe in the words of Jesus and obey him, a miracle is brought about. Faith brings about a miracle with visible proof. The second miracle at Cana also challenges me that only when I believe Jesus and obey him a miracle can happen even though there is no visible proof in my eyes. The son of a certain royal official was revived even though he could not see with his eyes when he believed in the words of Jesus Christ.
Decisions and applications
Even though there are no visible evidence, if I believe in Jesus’ words and obey him, his promises surely will be accomplished in my life. Jesus spoke to the doubtful disciple Thomas, ‘you have believed because you have seen me, but blessed are those who have not seen yet have believed’ (John 20:29). ‘Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see’ (Heb 11:1). It is impossible to please God without faith (Heb 11:6). Even though I do not see any evidence to believe, I will enjoy witnessing Jesus my Lord because of the fulfilment and accomplishment of God’s will in my life only when I believe in the promises of the invisible God.
